HI my asus mainboard that has been glitchy ever since I bought this system last summer finally gave it up. Made some calls to local PC repair shops looking for a good used am3+ mobo for my FX8320 and 4x 4gb ram sticks. One guy said he had one that was iffy that I could have free. I have identified it as a gigabyte GA-78LMT-S2P (rev. 5.x). It came up fine for me and performed a nice clean install of win10x64 19.09 even though it seemed a bit slow to me. I have since went into bios and configured cpu speed correctly for the 8320 at 3.5ghz, it was defaulted at 2.9 one pointer to maybe the slowness. The other pointer is that this mobo only has 2x ddr3 ram sockets where as my old mobo had 4 to support my 4x4gb sticks. So now my ram is half from 16 to 8. I do game a lot and have ran some tests and on the higher end games It is slower and I do believe this is due to only 8gb ram. Ok now what to do obviously try to get 2x 8gb mem sticks. I read on gigabyte site this board will only support 16 total. Checked Newegg $70 for 2 new 8x2. On a whim checked my local craigslist. One guy has some 16gb single sticks for $20 ok sweet that would be great IF this board will support a single 16. From my experience ddr3 likes to run in pairs so that's my question does anyone know if a gigabyte GA-78LMT-S2P (rev. 5.x) would support a single 16gb mem stick? PS. the board is 100% stable even though it was thought to be iffy. I believe the problem he had was when it boots it will hang on verifying dpm pool table and I found the reason this happens is where there are multiple sata drives running on post but if you only have the os drive hooked up it boots fine into win10 and then just reconnect the drives and tell device manager to scan for new stuff and bam Im good to go. Just sleep the system never cold boot and bam no problems. Does anyone know if this board would support a single 16gb mem stick??
