A computer of mine bought the proverbial farm recently. Trouble shooting was pretty difficult because pressing the power on button caused nothing to happen. After swapping the power supply and verifying that there was nothing wrong with it I concluded that it was time to migrate to a more up to date processor & motherboard. I choose the Gigabyte Z270P-D3 motherboard because it appeared to be new enough to support a lot of more up to date capabilities (e.g., more/faster memory, various ssd options, higher res graphics, etc.) than my now dysfunctional computer. However, the big reason was that it supported processors that Windows 7 is capable of running on.
It seems to run Windows 7 just fine up to a point. That point being that pretty much as soon as I finished running the express install to update drivers the mouse and keyboard stopped working. In the case of the mouse the pointer still moves but clicking it does nothing. Likewise pressing keys on the keyboard does nothing. This is almost as bad as having nothing happen when pressing the power on button when it comes to trouble shouting.
The keyboard and mouse work fine when accessing the BIOS. They also work fine during boot up. In fact, on Windows 7 they work during sign-in but as soon as a user logon is performed the mouse and keyboard stop working.
Also Win PE works fine. This causes me to hope that there is a way to undertake some kind of corrective action by making changes using Win PE.
Is it possible that this is a known problem for which there is a reliable solution?
