I have this board in a box and the only thing we use it for is watching tv. (Yup, seriously.) So, I am connected through HDMI to my tv and it works great when it works. We have both Xfinity that we watch as well as Directv Now. The Xfinity works perfectly, surprisingly to me. However, when watching DTVN after a while it will freeze. You can still move the mouse but nothing is clickable.
Then the mouse will freeze and the screen will go grey. There is nothing you can do at this point except hit the reset button. There is no rhyme or reason to this problem. I am convinced that it is linked to the driver somehow.
Since the only thing that I use this box for is the tv there is nothing on it. It has AVG, Google Chrome (since that is required by DTVN) and nothing else, I don't have a problem slicking it and reinstalling everything. I did that today. The person that I got this box from had win7/32 bit on it. So I wiped it and put win7/64 bit on and am still having the same problem.
The reason I think it is video driver related is if I remove the Radeon HD 4200 driver and just let windows install a driver I do not have the problem. But then I do not get any sound through the HDMI connection. The only way to get sound then would be to connect a cable from the box to the TV but I would need one the could connect to the computer then have an RCA on the other end to connect to the tv. If you look at the sound control panel it says there is no connection to the HDMI even if it is plugged in. This is after installing the sound drivers.
Anyway, my apologies for rambling on. But I wanted to give as much info as possible about the problem. Has anyone encountered something like this? I have no idea what format DTVN uses for their video stream but it does not agree with this driver apparently. And the next part of the question is, why would that driver be the only way to get the system to recognize the hdmi for the sound?
I am not sure what level the bios is, I have not looked, would a bios upgrade possibly help? That thought just came to me....
Thank you for reading all of this. I will give the specs for my box below, it is real basic as you will see since this is only used for tv at this point.
Have a wonderful day everyone!
