tomharrison, I don't have your board and didn't have to install the EC FW tool, but I helped others successfully to walk through it. One of the gurus on this site told me the tool figures out if it is needed and then installs itself. It's not needed on your system until you get your 3700x.
If I was doing this. I would hold off until the installation of the 3700x, then install the tool, and then upgrade the BIOS.

Hi, ive got my 3700x now so thats why im wanting to do this xD. The thing is with that on auros it says to install this ECFW tool before I install the next bios update which supports the 3rd gen series so im a bit stuck. Might just have to say f*ck it and just try it lol.

tomharrison, Installing the 3700 with your board as is shouldn't be a problem if you are below the BIOS that requires the firmware tool. Then try the tool again move up the BIOS tree from there, or have you already moved your BIOS up ? If you have, Yeah, stuff it. l-)
hi, it says on auros to only update the bios to f40 (the one compatible with 3rd gen) when you have installed the ecfw updater. However i just went for it haha, im on my 3700x now on f50 bios and can only assume the flash must've worked or ive somehow got lucky because all my ram still working (4x4gb sticks) and i havent had any sound issues or other issues as of yet and all wokring fine. Touch wood xD. Thanks for the help tho!

I'm looking at getting the B450 AORUS PRO WIFI (rev. 1.0) can anyone tell me if the bios on those are up to date and if no have they fixed the issue with the EC FW Update Tool or is that just an issue with the x470 board?

I have ab350 gaming 3 and until yesterday it had ryzen 7 1700x CPU. I had previously upgraded to bios f50a when i installed an m.2 drive.
I never noticed the note in the bios upgrade instructions about EC FW tool (or because i run Linux i interpreted that the EC FW Tool didn't apply to me). But as i was readying to install a 37600x i saw that note and then ended up reading this thread and some others. But here's the thing...
i installed a Ryzen 7 3700x yesterday and when i booted it back up, it looked like it was starting normal - then stopped and restarted itself - it did this about three times all with no screen activity - it was like the monitor was off.
Then it booted. Ubuntu reports that it has the Ryzen 3700x CPU and dmesg shows that the bios is running F50a as before. And the system shows 32Gig of RAM (i have 4 sticks of Ballistix 8GB ram - DDR4 2400 - BLS2C8G4D240FSB). And it continues to reboot just fine.
So, my question is why is it working? or is it not really working as i think? And if i have to go back and install the EC FW tool - how to do that - must i reinstall the old CPU and get a copy of windows just to do this? seems like it'd be cheaper to go buy a new board then buy windows just for this...

3 attempts to boot is normal. That is the ram training process.
as far as the ecfw update, if it is working for you then you may be fine. The biggest issue was people running high density double sided sticks of ram. Some people with 4x8 also had issues. If you want to do the ecfw update you can do it at any point without needing to flash back to an older bios. Just be aware that the system will appear to crash and then its going to boot on the backup bios. Right now your backup bios probably hasnt been flashed to a version that supports a newer cpu. Don't freak out when your system doesn't boot after that. Unplug power from the power supply, press and hold the power button for a few seconds to discharge and then power it back up and it should boot back on the main bios chip and work just fine.
Since you are in linux you would need to either use the dos utility to update the ecfw or boot into a windows install to do it through the windows utility. I have no clue if the dos utility functions the same way and will result in the system booting on the backup bios so it could be a non issue for you.
My Signature... I do not work for gigabyte. My advice and opinions are my own.

does anyone have the bitspower or EK monoblock for this motherboard? Is it worth the money?
intender wrote: Jan 19, 2021 11:55:39 GMT -8 lima567 this is a windows 10 20h2 issue. I had the same thing on one of my computers. I was never able to get logged back into my account on that PC. I moved that drive to another computer and copied over all data I wanted to keep and did a clean install.

joeym wrote: Jan 16, 2021 7:15:27 GMT -8 I would strongly recommend that anyone who hasn't already signed the petition do so now. If you already signed it, please share it! This may help encourage all other motherboard manufacturers to follow suite. Link to the petition: chng.it/LKLksG4yQv

vigo wrote: Jan 15, 2021 9:35:47 GMT -8 what is resizable BAR ?
desaccorde wrote: Jan 15, 2021 0:50:15 GMT -8 300 Series MUST be supported, no other way. MSI supports it. They may think they're pushing their customers for a premature upgrade, but guess what? Even if I upgrade, I wouldn't buy a Gigabyte board. Me and all my close friends will never buy Gig again.
johnyb0y wrote: Jan 14, 2021 4:58:11 GMT -8 @gigabyte, I've personally built with half a dozen of your boards and recommended you at least 5 times last year. This will stop if you screw Z390 users with not supporting Re-BAR.*
mezzer wrote: Jan 14, 2021 2:23:19 GMT -8 This will be my last gigabyte mobo if there's no resize bar support on 300 series.
