Hello,

I have the X399 Aorus Gaming 7, and every time Windows tries to restart or shut down... it can't. Even during the install process, it would LOOK like it was going to restart, and the displays would turn off and my USB peripherals would turn off (keyboard backlight shuts off) but the PC would never actually lose power. Pressing the power button won't kill it either, I need to hold the button until it dies.

Is this a problem with memory compatibility (I also can't run XMP profile on my GSKILL Trident RGB F4-3200C15Q-64GTZR) or is there some other setting I need to mess with, or do I have a bad board? I would assume I had a goofy Windows 10 install, but considering it did the same issue even during the install process, it seems like there is something else going on.

Agreed. I've got something very close to what you're describing. While in Windows 10, if a program asks for or I initiate a soft reset/reboot... everything proceeds like it is shutting down but the system never resets and reboots. It just hangs right about the point where you'd think it should start the boot up process. I can power down manually by pressing the power button for 5 seconds. Any information on a fix or workaround would be appreciated.

I believe it will actually shut down or reboot eventually. Be patient. Perhaps even 5 minutes.

I'm guessing you have RAID mode on your NVMe, even though it may be a legacy disk. I also started seeing it on any SATA/NVMe RAID mode boot disk on my system.

I converted all my boot disks to non-raid UEFI boot and the reboot / shut down problems are gone.

IMO it's a BIOS issue.

Let us know if this sounds accurate for your rigs too.

This is exactly what my Designare does and i have tested all hardware except having gigabyte rma the motherboard.

The other odd thing mine does is if I hold the power button to kill it after telling the OS to shutdown, the chipset RGB LED stays on unless I hard pull power from the PSU.

I agree that this is a bios issue that needs to be fixed as the one common denominator is the raid setting.

AMD did nothing, only asked for dxdiag and a video. Then they went silent. Gigabyte has been no help either.

Also as to the be patient post. Mine actually restarts after a few minutes if I leave it. I can tell windows to shutdown, leave the machine come back and its at the login again.

I actually pointed out this thread and a couple others to gigabyte support.

The more I dig into this, the more repeats of this issue I find and its not limited to threadripper. This is happening on X370 boards as well. Enable raid, cant shutdown or restart. Disable fast boot no effect. Disable hybernation, no effect.

I poked and prodded every bios setting and driver I could find last night with zero affect. Guess I'll have to abandon the nvme raid just to get a properly working system. Purchase another 960evo and run windows on that one, raid the other two in windows since AMD cant seem to get their act together and gigabyte is all but totally worthless.

I mean seriously, a few simple googles and this issue is actually pretty common but zero movement from board vendors or amd to address the issue.

Is there a place to issue a bug report to amd?

Maybe I need to get a few coding friends to find a vulnerability in this problem and amd might get off their behind and fix this BS issue.

In my situation, the computer would not start after shut down. Every time I had to turn off the power with 0 button on the power supply. And you won't believe what was causing the problem. Display Port from the graphics card. When I plugged in HDMI cable from the graphics card to monitor, all was working well. The issue never happened. Then I unplugged it, and I plugged in Display port cable from the graphic card to display port in the monitor, and baam. The issue happens again (after shut down it won't start).

My configuration was :
Gigabyte Aorus Elite x570
Gigabyte Aurus P750W modular power supply
Gigabyte GTX 1070 8 GB graphics card

Display port from graphics card GTX 1070 to display port in the monitor was causing the problem. Why? I don't know. My guess is that display port cable tries to take more power from the power supply, and power supply tells, well you won't sir, and shuts down.

SOLUTION: Ok, people, connect HDMI cable from your graphics card to HDMI in your monitor. Or if you don't have HDMI, try with a simple VGA port connection to VGA in a monitor.

Hope this will save some of you from headaches.
