I'm planning to build gaming PC of my dream but I'm not very good at hardware stuff so I got a bunch of questions.

I chose this motherboard:

Z490 AORUS MASTER

And I want to fit there two of these SSD:

AORUS Gen4 SSD 1TB

Motherboard descr says it have 3 slots for SSD:

1 x M.2 connector (Socket 3, M key, type 2242/2260/2280/22110 PCIe x4/x2 SSD support) (M2P_SB)

1 x M.2 connector (Socket 3, M key, type 2242/2260/2280/22110 SATA and PCIe x4/x2 SSD support) (M2A_CPU)

1 x M.2 connector (Socket 3, M key, type 2242/2260/2280/22110 SATA and PCIe x4/x2 SSD support) (M2M_SB)

1) What does M2P_SB/M2A_CPU/M2M_SB mean? Is there any difference between them? Is there any advantages using one over the others?

2) Motherboard description says it have PCIe 3.0 while SSD descr says it have PCIe 4.0

Are they compatible? Will I be able to use SSD at full speed with that motherboard? Or shoud I wait until z590 series with PCIE 4.0 release? (to use SSD properly)

Also I chose to use this CPU:

I9-10900K

3) Will motherboard provide enough power for "turbo boost" mode (overclocking)?

4) CPU descr says it have "Memory Types DDR4-2933". Can I use XMP technology to overcome that restriction and use for example 4100Mhz? Or it's hard capped and there's no point to buy ddr faster than 2933?

5) What advantages would I get from z590 over z490? Is it worth waiting for z590 if I already chose CPU, SSD and video (3070/3080)?

6) When z590 motherboards will be released?

If your money is not burning a hole in your pocket then I would suggest that you wait for the Z590 system boards. They should be out soon.

The first day pricing between the Z490 and Z590 should be close. You might see some retailers start to discount the Z490 system boards.

You might be able to get a combo deal from some retailers when you buy the processor and system board together.

Please correct me anyone if any of this is wrong.

1) What does M2P_SB/M2A_CPU/M2M_SB mean?
Different motherboard manufactures use different terms to label their ports and depending on what you have plugged in where it shares features with other devices. If you refer to page 33/34 of the manual for that board you might loose USB3.1 or a few SATA ports depending on SATA/NVMe installed and into which port.

Gen4 NVMe drives like GEN3 is backwards compatiable. However, you wont get the full speed out of the drive as it will be limited by the speed of PCIe3 that it is plugged into.

I haven't overclocked since my AMD Athlon days so I'm the wrong person to answer this, however, the board has 2x8 cpu power. I'd say you can overclock just fine provided you have enough CPU Cooling.

Refer to the supported memory pdf for the board. It lists upto 5ghz ram with XMP enabled. Make sure the ram you are picking is listed if you want to enable it. I personal find you can spend a lot of money here with very small gains and isn't worth spending huge amounts on.

5) What advantages would I get from z590 over z490?
We don't know the specs yet for z590 (though there's a lot of leaks and we can make some guesses). z590 will bring in better (if not native) support for PCIe4 meaning greater speeds. This will almost surely only benefit NVMe drives as even current gen video cards don't max out the PCIe bandwidth. However, you might still see an improvement for access speed etc. Some z490 board will support PCIe4 NVMe drives if for example the M2A_CPU mentioned before is connected directly to the CPU. In the case of my motherboards, I can't use that slot until I throw a gen11 CPU into it. Other advantages? Seems like the high end boards (EUR 1000+) will support a hell of a lot more power to the CPU... might be a sign of a hungry Gen 11 CPU but will also mean better OC. Also the z590 will likely support gen10 CPUs (to be confirmed on the specs sheet when they are officially released).

6) When z590 motherboards will be released?
Rumor suggest end of Jan or early Feb. With Rocket Lake (gen11) expected end of March or early April.

Edit, as I drink the last of my coffee and go to work....
As bigdave said, unless you have to upgrade because your system has died or any other need. I would hold off at least 1-3weeks to see what the z590 boards bring. Then go from there. Or even wait for gen 11 cpus and see what specials you can get on the gen10s.

Thanks! SSD speed bothered me the most. Guess I will wait for new z590 motherboards then.

Fixed by a Win reinstall to UEFI. Old install was non-UEFI and I guess this was causing the problem. Still since F11 was working this proves there might be an issue with no-UEFI installs on F20 and F30.
