I've had issues with my audio ever since I purchased an RTX 3080 (upgrading from a 1080Ti) on my x570 Aorus Elite running an R9 3900x. At first I thought it was my sound card (Sound Blaster Zx), where I'd get terrible popping, channel swapping, sound stage changing constantly. It was ridiculous.
I fixed it by going from PCI-E "Auto" to forcing PCI-E to Gen3.
I decided to test some more since everyone kept laying the blame on Creative... so I took out the sound card, DDU removed all sound blaster drivers, cleaned up everything, and enabled HD Audio in my bios and reverted back to PCI-E "Auto".
I had a SIMILAR issues, not exactly the same, but still issues. There is audible popping in the audio, and it's really bad with some types of audio that hit hard (hard rock style music does it the most).
Turning PCI-E back to Gen3, all popping goes away completely.
I've updated Win10 fully, updated all drivers, and updated BIOS from F11 to F21 (held off on going to F30 as I don't believe this will fix it), and the issue persists if PCI-E is running in Gen4 (Auto sets it since I have a PCI-E 4 GPU). I don't do any OC except for using the XMP profile (3466 CL16) for my memory.
I've not done any voltage changes to SoC or anything else as I've seen others recommends, because when I checked my voltages for SoC and VDDG they're all within the DRAM calculator's recommended range for my memory.
What's going on here? I see this issue going on with many other x570 boards and not just Gigabyte. Is AMD working on a fix?

Hi,
What is the make and model of the RTX 3080? Look for a GPU BIOS update.
Update date the RTX 3080 using the latest NVIDIA drivers. Review the release notes.
Go back to PCI-E 4 for your RTX 3080.
Reseat the RTX 3030.
Switch the sound to use the RTX 3080's sound drivers as the defaults and run some more tests. It might shed more light on the issue.
If you are using RGB then remove the software and hardware connection as see what happens.
Gigabyte like other manufacturers don't always list everything that BIOS updates fix and correct. Did you reset the BIOS defaults after the last BIOS update?

It's a Gigabyte RTX 3080 Gaming OC. There is no new BIOS update, and I'm using the newest NVIDIA drivers (457.30). There is zero issues with my GPU. It's always been about sound issues. I don't ever have any BSODs, games and such don't crash.
Also yes, after I updated from F11 to F21 all settings were reset to default.
There's been many threads on Reddit etc related to x570, PCI-E 4 and sound popping/cutout issues, including Asus boards and MSI boards, so that's why I believe this to be a more widespread issue than just Gigabyte.

I have the same problem but with onboard sound card and the latest bios F31h, reverted back to F31e and the problem is gone. I suggest you to open support ticket as me.
I just wanna pop in here that after some Googling. Someone else has the same exact issue as me!
I also recently upgraded to a 3080 (coming from a 1080) and ever since I've had the card, I've had audio popping issues. This happens whenever something uses NVENC (like streaming on Discord or streaming on OBS). The only thing that's changed is the 3080 and I guess the drivers that come with it.

Put your 1080 back in--I'm guessing from what you are saying that you did not have this problem before. It's very possible the 3080 is "hogging the PCIe bus," but it's been years since I've seen this. But it used to be common years ago. When a PCIe device is taking up too much bandwidth from the PCIe4 bus, other devices on the PCIe bus will suffer--the sound problem you mention is the most common occurance when this is happening. I've an x570 Aorus Master, bios F31i, and a 5700XT running on PCIe4 mode for the last 14 months (first couple of months were spent with GB getting the bios updates to properly suport PCIe4), and I'm glad to say I haven't had these problems.
This is nVidia's first PCIe4 GPU, isn't it? The RTX-3000 series, is that right? IIRC, RTX-2k was PCIe3. It's likely that the answer will lie in a nVidia driver update, I would speculate. Remember--you bought a brand new card from nVidia--you are definitely going to see teething problems for this new nVidia architecture for awhile. So report it to nVidia and to GB eSupport--but I can say that PCIe4 mode on my mboard works fine. You won't notice anything by running the card in PCIe3 mode until the problem is solved!

It doesn't seem to be limited to Nvidia cards, as I've seen plenty of posts on Reddit with the same issues with the new PCI-E 4 AMD cards.
I've had a PCIe4 5700XT for the past 17 months--never had the issue once. I have yet to read a single reddit post about this, either. Look, just run the card in PCIe3 mode until nVidia shoots you some more drivers that take care of the problem. Please contact nVidia about it. It's not going to make much if any difference at all in your performance. nVidia will fix it, no doubt.

Do you run yours in PCI gen 4 mode?
Is this like the third time I've said that in this thread?....;) Yes. It's been running consistently in PCIe4 mode for the last 14 months, if not longer. When I bought the 5700XT and the x570 Aorus Master on 7/7/19, it took either one or two months before PCIe4 functioned properly with the 5700XT. x570 mboard were the first to support PCIe4, and the 5700XT was the first family of 3d cards to support PCIe4. So, PCIe4 mode--tested and confirmed with 3dMark's little PCIe bandwidth tests--has been running fine with the 5700XT for 14-16 months. And even when GB was getting the initial AGESA's from AMD and just beginning to debug it's x570 Master bios versions--I never heard any interference of any kind with my PCIe sound device.
PCIe4 devices consume double the bandwidth of PCIe3 devices. If a device sitting on the PCIe bus is trying to pull down too much bandwidth for itself then other PCIe devices may suffer. Before PCIe this used to be common in the old days with PCI buses--GPUs often "hogged the bus" creating bus contention with the sound devices/card on the PCI bus, causing crackling and popping. The reason why he no longer has a problem when putting his card in PCIe3 mode is because it's now limited to pulling down half the bandwidth it's trying to pull in PCIe 4 mode. If it wasn't simply a matter of bandwidth then moving to PCIe3 mode would not solve the crackling/popping. In PCIe4 mode his GPU is trying to pull too much bandwidth--that's all it amounts to.
Since these are nVidia's first PCIe4 mode drivers for its first PCIe4 GPUs, I think it's pretty much a sure thing that a driver revision should fix this for running in PCIe4 mode! I hope it's clear this time--if I wasn't running in PCIe4 mode myself I'd likely not be saying so...;)

OK makes sense. I don't see how bandwidth would be an issue though - the GPU is on the direct link to the cpu, the audio card is on the chipset link, sound cards only use pci gen 1 x1 anyway so need very little bandwidth.

I doubt luck has anything to do with it. I made what I thought was a good suggestion for you based on having seen these problems years ago when they were pretty common. Ah--so you have a USB sound card, not a PCIe card? Your post says you have a PCIe card. Which is it? USB sound devices are entirely dependent on your CPU--which is why I never use them. Also, the thread you link is almost a year old. The poster doesn't seem to understand much about what he's trying to do, imo. OTOH, I am using a PCIe4 card in PCIe4 mode with a PCIe sound card--not USB--and I've never had any crackling.
If you are using a USB sound card I highly recommend either using the mobo onboard sound or buying a PCIe sound card. I would never use USB for sound--but that's just lucky ol' me, I guess...;) Your onboard sound isn't USB--it's PCIe. So what are you seeing has no relationship to the thread you linked.
