Hi,

My motherboard is aourus x299 gaming 9. My USB 3.1 Gen 2 Type 2 (red) not working is currently not working while the USB 3.1 gen 1 (blue) is working well. The gen 2 is able to provide the power but not showing up any connected devices on my windows.

I upgraded to the latest drivers of ASMedia 3.1 (1.16.61.1); Windows and BIOS were also up to date. I tried to enable XHCI Hand-off. Nothing works so far.

Any suggestions?

Hi,

When did this problem start?

What OS are you using? What is the build level for the OS?

What processor are you using?

Have you done a PCIe lane audit to ensure that you are not over subscribing the internal lanes?

You only need to use XHCI hand-off if you are using an OS that doesn't natively support USB 3.

Are you using any Gigabyte Apps? If yes, make sure that USB Blocker is not blocking your USB devices.

This site might have an updated ASMedia driver. You need to determine your installed chipset.

Hi,

Thanks for your response. I don't know when the problem started because I have never used those ports in two years. My OS is Windows 10 OS build 19041.508 (lastest one). I used App center, but I don't see any USB blockers being installed. My pc spec:
I7 7800x
1080 gygabyte waterblock
64 DDR3 gb trident.
1 x samsung 970 pro, 1 samsung x 970 evo, 2x 8tb seagate.

How can I check my pcie lanes?

Hi,

Windows 10 1809 is the latest level that Gigabyte has posted drivers for your PC. However, there are BIOS updates that you should consider for installing.

Did you try re-installing the latest ASMEDIA driver from the support server? Try SIV Hardware Monitor Go to the USB tab and see what ASMEDIA chipset that you are using. My previous post has a site that might provide you with a later ASMEDIA driver.

The I7 7800x only supports 28 lanes. This site will explain how PCIe lanes get allocated. So, do an audit and it you are over allocated then you either need to remove devices or replace the processor with a processor that supports more lanes.

Thank you for quick response. I think the problem is my cpu doesn't support enough lanes. I did the calculation.

1 x 1080 gpu (1 x 16 lanes)
4 x 3.1 gen 2 (4 x 2 lanes)
4 x 3.0 gen 1 (4 x 1 lanes)
2 x m2 drive (4 x 2 lanes)
1 x onboard sound (1 x 1 lanes) (not sure if it counts)
1 x network controller (1 x 1 lanes) (not sure if it counts)

So, theoretically I need 38 lanes, but my chip only supports 28 lanes. I will try upgrading i9 10900x soon. I knew about those lanes previously, but I thought those lanes only count for removable devices like graphic cards. Btw, does DDR count to lane thing?

P/s: I upgraded the usb driver already. I also fully upgraded the bios.
