Regarding clearing CMOS, using the button or shorting the pins are the same, but the PSU has to be turned off and power cable unplugged. Seems a bunch of Ryzen users have had to remove the battery from Gigabytes mobos, so if it is possible, yes. And press the start button too. You should be grounded when working with the CPU.

You might consider the following procedure. It might be more than is necessary. Follow Colonelhop's suggestion for being grounded to avoid a static electric discharge.

1.Turn the power off to the PSU (use the switch on the PSU).
2.Wait until the clear CMOS light button on the back is no longer lit.
3.Hold down the CMOS button for 60 seconds.
4.Open up the case and remove the CMOS battery for 60 seconds.
5.Replace the CMOS battery.
6.Switch the PSU back on.
7.Should should be ready to power up at this point.

Now boot into the BIOS and load the optimized BIOS settings (F7). I normally do this twice just to be sure that the optimize settings are loaded. Now save the BIOS and try to boot up into Windows.

I re-installed the CPU and upon removing it discovered what appears to be a pin issue. Please see pics below. I re-installed everything, cleared the CMOS as instructed (60 seconds and battery removal) and now unfortunately cannot get any memory to post in any slot and appear dead in the water. Machine will boot, but 4C and C1 errors but now cannot get the BIOS to appear. I tried the different dimms in the various slots and not just stuck.

I've submitted a similar description to the Gigabyte support team on Saturday, but have not heard back yet. I'd like to RMA the board. Can you advise on how best to proceed and if I can reference this exchange back to them? Not sure if that is something this group can facilitate with overall and if you communicate with that group in anyway.

Appreciate all your help and look for advise on what to do next. I feel I've exhausted all options.

In closing this out for anyone facing similar issues...finally got an RMA approval from Gigabyte, but the shipping and turnaround time was going to be approximately 4 weeks. I didn't want to wait 4 weeks and instead politely requested Amazon to accept this as a refund and exchange and did exactly that - put the broken board in the box and took it to Kohl's (who accepts Amazon returns) and new board on its way this weekend vs. 4 weeks. Hopefully do not encounter the same issues.

For future reference, if you ever have the option to return a suspected bad board during the retailers return period always attmpt go through the retailer. This will be the fastest way and the cheapest option for you. Only choose a manufacturer RMA when outside the return period. You have to pay for return shipping, and shipping a motherboard is not usually cheap. Ground shipping with minimum insurance and minimum packaging will be $20+. Good packaging with insurance will be closer to $40 and still take a week or more to get to Gigabyte, a few weeks for them to work on the board, and another week to get back to you.

Did you wind up getting it working? I'm having the exact same issue you are with my Z940 Ultra and my 2x 16GB Corsair Vengeance Pro RAM (CMW32GX4M2Z3600C18).
