I am getting code 78 everytime i boot my new system. I read it could be linked to psu and tried a different one. Same issue. I have tried different ram, removed all the extra wires. Only power for cpu and 24-pin. Same issue, is the board dead?

Error code 78 ----> ACPI core initialization
Unplug the PC and then remove the CMOS battery for 1 minute. Replace the CMOS battery and hold down the clear CMOS switch on the back of the motherboard for 30 seconds. Now plug the PC back in and attempt to power up.
If you still have the same issue then try removing the CPU and inspect the CPU socket and motherboard using a magnifying glass for damage and/or bent pins. If no damage is visible then reassemble your Pc and attempt another power on.
If you still have the same issue then you are down to the motherboard or CPU. Contact Gigabyte Support if you think it's the motherboard.

Thank you for the answer. I did all of that and inspected both the board and CPU and cannot notice anything wrong with both of them. I just purchased both so I will be returning them to the store to swap for another pair.
Yes at the end I had only the cpu ram and power cables plugged in. I followed the troubleshooting guide but its no help since it wont post but its not a vcard or display issue as they are working with my old system.

I am getting this error as well. I have tried most everything to troubleshoot it. I have not tried a different CPU (don't have another to test with), flashing updated BIOS, or testing components on another board (also don't have an extra to test with). I'll provide the build specs so anyone may be able to spot any conflicts.

UPDATE: I was attempting to boot the computer with a VGA monitor connected to the HDMI port with a HDMI to VGA adapter. When I spoke with GIGABYTE Tech Support they explained Q-code 78 means it is not detecting a monitor.
New monitor arrived and PC is operating as expected.

I have the same problem but i'm using an hdmi monitor, do you know if something else could be? Or anything else gigabyte told you
I found that a 4k monitor plugged into my graphics card was not displaying. But when I switched monitors, the display was there and the system had booted from the USB drive and was waiting for input.
So the 78 post code didn't mean the system had hung, just that it was waiting for input?
Wish the motherboard would clear the post code display when it loads a bootloader from media. Or display something other than 78...

This is just wrong, gigabyte...monitor is not essential for a system

I just confirmed with my "Z390 AORUS Master": after original power up and every time after I press Clear CMOS button - the board becomes stuck and displays code 78 forever ... until I plug Monitor AND Mouse and dismiss some pesky message box that informs me that I happened to press Clear CMOS button (as if I do not know). Now, this is pure evil. The most misleading error message in history of computing. "ACPI Core initialization." in giga-speak means that they cannot find a mouse! And even more evil is what "bigdave" wrote - he suggested that I remove the CPU from the socket and inspect it with magnifying glass! That is not easy to do when cooler is already installed and could have caused damage. Also, does his suggestion to strip the system to bare minimum, includes removing mouse or not?
So, may be for few unfortunate souls, removing and replacing CPU may, indeed, may be necessary, but for the rest of us buying some cheap mouse will be sufficient. Hope this helps.
