I just bought the Gigabyte x470 Aorus Gaming 7 WiFi motherboard hoping to use the 2 M.2 slots with 2 regular M.2 SATA HDDs in Raid 0.

But it seems like the motherboard has the second M.2 slot not working - not detecting the M.2 HDD in slot.

I retested the issue by removing all SATA HDDs with no resolution.

If I have the Video card and M.2 HDD installed - it seems to be working.

If I move the M.2 HDD to the second M.2 slot with the video card installed - The BIOS states no HDDs detected.

I currently have BIOS F.3 - should I use a new BIOS if there is one?

Is there an option in BIOS or elsewhere to enable the second M.2 slot?

Please provide help.

Do you have any of the other PCI-E slots populated? I personally only use the second slot with my Samsung m.2 nVME SSD to avoid the hot video card from sitting on top of it. Is the second slot SATA compatible? I am not sure but I do know that both slots of nVME m.2 compatible. A little more information about your system and all attached devices might help. Have you tried updating your BIOS to F4e?

Edit: According to Gigabyte's spec page for the board, the m.2b slot does not support SATA.

I have tested it as bare bones as I could which is:

1 PCI-E Video Card - XFX Radeon RX 560 video card

1 M.2 non-NVME Sata HDD.

That's it

When I move the M.2 Sata HDD to the 2nd M.2 port - Motherboard states no hard drives detected.

Seems like that port is not active.

I will be updating the BIOS to F.4 next.

Crossing my fingers and my toes... 8-)

The m.2B slot does not support SATA, which is why your drive is not detected.

What does it support?

Only NVME?

I couldn't find any documentation to that affect if so.

On the manual it states:

I was interpreting SSD as SATA but I guess they are both SSDs.... duh.... 8-(

So I guess M2B_Socket only supports NVMe SSD HHDs?

If so - why is it on the slower of the two PCIe Bus.

M2A_Socket - Slot 1 PCIe 3.0 gen

M2B_Socket - Slot 2 PCIe 2.0 gen

Should the issue be backwards.

NVMe on the 3.0 gen and the SATA on the 2.0gen?

Most importantly do I need to buy a NVMe SSD HDD?

Bandwidth wise, it isn't really much slower. X4 PCI-E 2.0 is still fast enough to max out most nVME drives. My Samsung 960 EVO 500GB hits 2800MB/s easily but doesn't reach 3200MB/s. Most average performing nVME SSD's top out around 2400MB/s.

I have no idea. It isn't really clear either way. Perhaps call Gigabyte's support. The one time I called them about a piece of information. They quickly answered my question.

you can have 2x m.2 nvme raid but not two m.2 sata cards or raid.

With only in total 24 pcie 3.0 lanes you will find issues with nvme raid.

I am wanting to set both NVMe ssd drives in RAID 0.
